The Bureau of Postharvest Research and Extension (BPRE) in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will hold the Third Country Training on Rice Postharvest Technology and Extension Methodologies on November 4-23, 2007 at BPRE headquarters in the Science City of Muñoz.
Technical staff at the central and provincial level of Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) and Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy (MIME) in Cambodia will participate in the training. They will eventually serve as trainers of Cambodia's agricultural extension services specifically on rice postharvest technology.
The training aims to enhance the technical capability of the staff on postharvest technology. It also intends to increase the knowledge of participants on the cause and prevention of postharvest losses; guide the participants in formulating their respective action plans; and discuss the strategies in mentoring and coaching to effectively implement their action plans for their region/ province.
There are three modules of the training course. These include an overview of postharvest, fundamentals of postharvest, and extension methodologies and approaches. Study tours, and field visits will also be conducted during the implementation of the activity.
A pool of experts from BPRE will be tapped to serve as resource persons during the conduct of the training. Other invited speakers will come from different agencies, and state college and universities like the National Food Authority, Philippine Rice Research Institute, Central Luzon State University, and the University of the Philippines, Los Baños.
His Excellency In May, Ambassador of Cambodia to the Philippines and Mr. Kenzo Iwakami, deputy resident representative of JICA in the country, will grace the opening program of the training on November 5, 2007.
