BPRE to celebrate 27th anniversary

The Bureau of Postharvest Research and Extension (BPRE) will commemorate its 27th anniversary at its headquarters in the Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija on May 26, 2005. The anniversary coincides with the celebration of the Postharvest Loss Prevention Week on May 22-28, 2005.

Significant activities lined-up for the Industry Day include the awarding ceremonies for the major postharvest industry partners and MOA Signing for the Agricultural tramline in Carranglan, Nueva Ecija and Atok, Benguet, the unveiling of the BPRE windmill powered clock and others.

Senator Ramon B. Magsaysay Jr. and Secretary of Agriculture Arthur Yap Jr. along with other dignitaries are expected to grace the occasion.

Created on May 24, 1978 through Presidential Decree 1380 by then President Ferdinand Marcos, BPRE (formerly known as the National Postharvest Institute for Research and Extension) is mandated to generate, extend and commercialize appropriate postharvest technologies and systems to curb postharvest losses and improve food and feed quality.
