by Vladimir B. Caliguiran (June 17, 2014)
Agriculture Secretary Proceso J. Alcala lauds newly generated PHilMech technologies during his short visit at the PHilMech Headquarters, Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija on June 16, 2014.

“Sa mga teknolohiya na ipinakikita niyo sa akin… ay hindi po tayo nahuhuli ,” said the DA Chief before the PHilMech staff in response to what he saw during his tour at PHilMech.

Among the technologies introduced to Secretary Alcala were the bio-control technologies for grains storage and fruits, Compact corn-mill, hand tractor-driven rice transplanter and combine harvester, off-season onion production system, cassava digger, essential Ylang-ylang oil extractor, coco-water pasteurizer, far-infrared and convection heating system for mango, gasifier, grain dryers with biomass furnace, and various processing systems for coffee, cacao, soybean, and cashew.

“Ito po ang pinapangarap ko sa PHilMech ,” he added, “you are using your time and the available technologies para mapakinabangan talaga. I believe that PHilMech now is doing its best para matulungan ang ating Kagawaran, ang ating pong mga magsasaka na ating stakeholders, at ang future ng ating industriya .”

Alcala even suggested ideas such as putting up essential oil extractor to flower centers in Metro Manila specifically in Dimasalang to process the surplus supply into profitable product.

PHilMech, during its 36th anniversary celebration last month, launched AgrInnovation-- paradigm shift in undertaking RD&E programs. PHilMech agrinnovates by adapting, localizing, re-engineering, and contextualizing existing process and system, available gadgets, equipment, machinery, to make faster and appropriate R & D results.
