PHilMech contributes to rubber roadmap consultation on postharvest technologies

PHilMech participated in a stakeholders' consultation held on August 29-30, 2024, at Rudhil's Resort in Mahayag, Zamboanga del Sur. The event aimed to develop a comprehensive roadmap for training and extension services in the rubber industry, addressing key challenges and outlining strategies to enhance sectoral support.

The consultation sought to tackle the need for advanced postharvest processing technologies and equipment in the rubber industry. PHilMech played a crucial role by offering expertise in postharvest technologies and promoting efficient processing techniques to meet stakeholders' needs.

Interim Director for Extension Mr. Elijah Z. Davalos highlighted that PHilMech's contributions to the consultation included the development and promotion of innovative postharvest technologies, providing practical demonstrations, and supporting training programs to facilitate the effective use of these new technologies.

Representatives from various government agencies and organizations, including the Philippine Rubber Research Institute, DA-Philippine Rural Development Project, Agricultural Credit Policy Council, Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Agrarian Reform, Department of Science and Technology, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, and the Bureau of Plant Industry, along with local rubber farmer-leaders and local government units, participated in the consultation spearheaded by the Agricultural Training Institute - Regional Training Center IX.

The insights gained from the consultation are expected to drive the development of targeted training and extension programs, thereby enhancing the productivity, quality, and competitiveness of the Philippine rubber sector.
