Sec. Tiu Laurel inaugurates new postharvest facility in Isabela
by PHilMech Strategic Communications Group (October 3, 2024)
Department of Agriculture Secretary Francisco "Kiko" P. Tiu Laurel Jr. led the inauguration of the third Rice Processing System (RPS) in the province of Isabela under the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (RCEF) Mechanization Program held in Naguilian, Isabela, on October 3.

This RPS can potentially boost agricultural productivity and reduce postharvest losses, directly benefiting the Provider Multi-purpose Cooperative (PMC), the recipients of the program.

In his speech, Secretary Tiu Laurel Jr. emphasized the need for larger-scale support for the agricultural sector. He assured farmers of providing support in boosting the rice production and improve the quality of milled rice in the province, making quality rice more affordable for consumers.

The Php 65 million interventions include one unit of state-of-the-art multi-stage rice mill with 2-3 tons milling capacity per hour, two units of recirculating dryers with 12 tons drying capacity per batch, and an additional one unit of recirculating dryer with 6 tons drying capacity per batch.

The RCEF Mechanization Program was funded through RA 11203 or the Rice Tariffication Law principally authored by Senator Cynthia A. Villar.
