Quirino farmers and technicians trained on corn mechanization

The Bureau of Postharvest Research and Extension (BPRE) in collaboration with the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist of Quirino held a three-day Training Course on Social Preparation and Institutional Development on Corn Mechanization and Postharvest Technologies.


The training was held in Cabarroguis, Quirino on December 13-15, 2005. It aimed to enhance the awareness and knowledge of farmer-leaders and agricultural technologists on postharvest and prepare them for corn mechanization specifically on the medium-scale corn technologies.


A total of 29 participants consisting of farmer-leaders and agricultural technologists from different municipalities of Quirino like Maddela, Saguday, Cabarroguis, Diffun and Aglipay, attended the training.


Resource speakers were Dr. Angelito V. Angeles, Professor of Central Luzon State University; Mr. Ronald Cabangbang of Monsanto Seeds; Ms. Elizabeth Nicolas, President of PEDAI; Mr. Sonny A. Pacunla, Cluster Head in Quirino; and Engrs. Andres M. Tuates and Reagan J. Pontawe of BPRE.


The participants expressed their gratitude to BPRE and OPag-Quirino for the training. They pledged to extend their acquired knowledge to other farmer-leaders and agricultural technicians.


Engr. Eduardo T. Cayabyab, Chief of the Training Division of BPRE commended the participants for their cooperation and willingness to learn during the training. Post test results revealed an average knowledge gain of 53%. This was the highest knowledge percentage gain among the trainees of BPRE during the whole year.
