Kyoto University, PHilMech share expertise on Mechanization, Postharvest
by Karl Allen V. Aquino (August 26, 2026)
The Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PHilMech) and Kyoto University of Japan conducted a knowledge exchange and technical collaboration on agricultural mechanization and postharvest technologies today, August 26 at the PHilMech Main Office, Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija.

The Kyoto University from Japan representative, Dr. Kei Kajisa, and Senior Research Manager at International Rice Research Institute Ms. Pie F. Moya, were warmly welcomed by Dr. Dionisio G. Alvindia, PHilMech Director IV, as the two institutions shared expertise, experiences, and innovations aimed at addressing challenges in agricultural mechanization and postharvest management.

PHilMech presented its best practices under the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (RCEF), highlighting initiatives that support rice farmers through modern machinery and technologies to improve productivity, reduce production costs, and enhance farming efficiency.

“PHilMech is really appreciating this kind of effort. How we can serve, how we can implement the program, and reliably serve our stakeholders, and of course, the report that we will be generating from this study will really have to set standards because we are here to embrace change, not to resist any changes in agriculture because that is our principle here in PHilMech,” Dr. Alvindia said.

Also present during the technical collaboration were PHilMech Deputy Director Joel V. Dator, Chief of Socio-economics and Policy Research Division (SEPRD) Dr. Rodelio G. Idago, Senior Science Research Specialist of SEPRD Dr. Hernaiz G. Malano, and Acting Assistant Division Chief Engr. Alfonso M. Rico III.
