by Judy Ann B. Golez (September 12, 2023)
The Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PHilMech), in collaboration with Korea Agricultural Machinery Industry Cooperative (KAMICO) and the Department of Agriculture Regional Office XI, conducted the 5th KAMICO Roadshow held on September 6-7 at the DARCES compound, Manambulan, Davao City.

The two-day event was dubbed “Mech Now Davao 2023” with the theme, Farms of Tomorrow: Advancing Agriculture through Technology. This region-wide roadshow aims to promote the adoption of more advanced machines to support and ease the labor cost and effort of local high-value crop farmers.

The event showcased various Korean technologies that are suitable to the Philippine farming conditions. These include the SmartHive, Multi-crop Lifting SB-8500, Bed Former AF-300, Plow AP-25, and the Village Level Corn Milling Machine which is developed by PHilMech and the Lee Hwa Industry Co. - a designated company of KAMICO.

There were 320 estimated farmers who attended on the first day, and 220 on the following day, coming from Davao City, Davao del Sur, Davao del Norte, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, and Davao Occidental.

“After this roadshow, I am sure that the agriculture in the Philippines will be excellent, by adapting new and innovative farming technology. I hope that this event will serve as a bridge of the Philippines for innovation and further development of the agriculture field in the country. KAMICO will continue to work closely with the Philippines to develop and strengthen the Philippines’ agriculture sector,” Director Si Min Yi of KAMICO said.

Meanwhile, Dr. Dionisio G. Alvindia, PHilMech Director IV, recognizes the initiatives of the Korean partners.

“It’s high time now for us to recognize the effort of our Korean partners who are really helping us to develop our capability in machine development. The advantage of this is, yung ibang countries they are only selling us their machines, but KAMICO, they are selling us machines but also teaching us how to develop one,” Dr. Alvindia said.

The roadshow was graced by Senior Undersecretary Domingo F. Panganiban of the Department of Agriculture, PHilMech Director IV Dr. Dioniso G. Alvindia, DA RFO-XI Regional Executive Director Abel James L. Monteagudo, Davao City Councilor Marissa S. Abella, Korean delegates and other partner agencies.
