PHilMech trains on Community Radio Broadcasting
by Vanessa D. Pallar (December 15, 2023)
“Radio communicator simplifies the complicated,” a line from the veteran tri-media personality Mario C. Garcia of Forefront Broadcasting Company in the Training on Community Radio Broadcasting on December 11 to 12, 2023, at PhilSCAT, Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija.

As the Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PHilMech) establishes its community radio, it conducted this training to present the groundwork and technicalities of operating and managing community radio, broadcasting ethics, and the latest trends in radio broadcasting. The participants were not only ACD Staff of PHilMech but from various agencies.

Jenny Vi P. Abrajano, Science Research Analyst I of Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources-National Freshwater Fisheries Technology Center (BFAR-NFFTC) said, “Kahit IT [graduate] ako, kaya kong makipagsabayan sa [Development Communication] Graduate basta marunong makipagkapwa-tao (Even though I was an IT graduate, I can compete with Development Communication Graduate as long as I know how to socialize with others).”

Nathalu L. Ledda, City Government Assistant Department Head I-City Information Office of Science City of Muñoz, expressed, “Natuto po ako sa training na ito (community radio broadcasting training) (I’ve learned a lot in this training).” However, Christine Mae A. Nicolas, science research analyst of the Development Communication Division of Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice), shared, “Thankful po ako [at] magagamit ko yung knowledge at maibabahagi ko ito sa existing program partnership namin (I am grateful because I can apply and share my knowledge, especially with our existing program partnership).”

For PHilMech staff, Don Miguel C. Capariño, Science Research Specialist I mentioned, “It is a privilege to learn from experts…one of a lifetime experiences.” Additionally, Jona T. Paulo, Science Research Specialist I stated, “Sure po kami ma-aapply namin ito (learnings from the training workshop) sa ating itatayo na PHilMech Radio [Station] (We are certain that the learnings from this workshop will be applied once the PHilMech Radio Station is established).”

The PHilMech Community Radio is an avenue to deliver programs, services, and events of various agencies under Department of Agriculture (DA) and local government units in Nueva Ecija to Filipino farmers and the public, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts and shared responsibility of involved partners in content development and programming. It is also a part of the growing network of radio stations of the DA, which aims to disseminate knowledge and skills in farming.
