PHilMech cooperator links with Cavite-Based Herbal Company
by Gio Anton T. Barroga (November 19, 2021)
A moringa-based association from Sariaya, Quezon, is ready to take things to the next level after unveiling plans of expanding their long-time partnership with a local herbal medicine company during a skills training on moringa powder processing conducted by DA-PHilMech from November 16 to 18, 2021, in Sariaya, Quezon.
The three-day skills training aimed to teach moringa farmers on the production of high quality, safe and shelf-stable moringa powder using a hygenic and collapsible multi-commodity solar tunnel dryer (HC-MCSTD).

The HC-MCSTD was developed under the project of the Development of Agricultural Products Processing Technology (APPT), funded by the Asian Food and Agriculture Cooperation Initiative-Rural Development Administration (AFACI-RDA) based in South Korea.

Members of the Womens of Malungay Network inc. (WOMAN Inc.), officials from the local government unit of Sariaya and other cooperatives/associations from Nueva Ecija attended the training.

During the second day of training, Vivian F. Gomez, chairperson of WOMAN Inc., revealed to PHilMech, of their future plans to strengthen its ties through a partnership expansion with PhilTycoon International Co. – a local manufacturer and global distributor of herbal and holistic products.
PhilTycoon is also responsible for reaching out, training and encouraging small farmers to become confident that there will always be a market who will buy their produce. Founder and CEO, Dr. Asedillio M. Turing, who made an appearance during the training, said that his company has helped over 55,000 farmers – even turning a few of them into millionaires.

According to Turing and Gomez, the latter will be supplying processed moringa (and other processed herbal plants) to the former for marketing both locally and globally. Gomez's facility has a land size of 8000 sqm, which is capable of producing an average of 100 kg of fresh malunggay leaves monthly. She also said that they can buy as much as two tons of malunggay from local farmers.

"Napaka laking bagay sa amin na natutulungan kami ni Dr. Turing kasi nandyan s'ya lagi. Yung products namin, cash on delivery yan. Kaya pag uwi namin, tuwang-tuwa kami. Hindi namin kayang mag-deliver sa kanya ng bulk, kaya kailangan talaga din namin ng tulong. Hindi kayang mag-isa, kaya natutuwa po kami na nandyan ang PhilTycoon. Parating tumutulong. Pag tinatawag namin sila, nandito yung kundoktor para kunin at bilhin ang produkto namin," Gomez said.

("It's a very big deal that Dr. Turing is helping us – he's always there. We always get our payment once we deliver our product to them, which is why we're so happy every time we come home from our transaction. However, we cannot deliver to them in bulk all the time, which is why we seek help. We cannot do it alone. Thankfully, PhilTycoon is there and always ready to help. When we call them, their driver comes and picks up our product.")
